MANHATTAN — A 21-year-old man accused of repeatedly stabbing a Muslim cab driver in a vicious hate crime has been indicted on charges of attempted murder and assault, a law enforcement source said.
Film student Michael Enright, of Brewster, N.Y., did not appear in court on Monday for the announcement of his indictment, the Associated Press reported.
Enright faces a minimum of eight years in jail if he is convicted of the attempted murder in a hate crime of cabbieAhmed H. Sharif on Aug. 24.
Enright was "highly intoxicated" when he hailed a cab that Tuesday evening at East 24th Street and Second Avenue and asked Sharif, “Are you Muslim?” authorities said. When Sharif replied that he was in fact Muslim,Enright allegedly stabbed him five times.
The student is being held without bail in a Bellevue Hospital prison ward and will appear again in court on Sept. 22.

NEW YORK — Prosecutors say a New York arts student accused of slashing a Muslim taxi driver's throat has been indicted on hate-crime charges.
Michael Enright waived his right to be in a Manhattan court Monday as his indictment was announced. He's due to be arraigned next month on charges of attempted murder and assault, both as hate crimes.
His lawyer declined to comment on the charges.
The 21-year-old is being held without bail in a psychiatric ward.
Authorities have said a drunken Enright greeted the Bangladeshi driver in Arabic before telling him to "consider this a checkpoint" and stabbing him last week. The driver survived the attack.
Enright went to Afghanistan last spring with a group that aims to promote interfaith understanding.

Michael Enright, first Id say get off the booz, then Id say get some real psychological help. Not all muslims are bad and you sir now have proved that not all americans are good.

It's so Goddamn simple. If a Muslim was to be the one who stabbed someone else, then no questions would be asked.
The kid was screwed up from going over to Afganistan and seeing Muslim people get shot up by Americans. Add to that he was a raging alcoholic there ya go.
