In an interesting twist to the Tiger Woods, Elin Nordegren divorce saga, the ex-wife of the golfer is now planning to use part of the divorce settlement to establish a mental health clinic for underprivileged children to help them to cope with divorce.
It has been reported that the mother of two has been talking about this idea for quite some time. A source close to Elin, who happens to be studying for a degree in mental health counseling, says that Elin is interested in "setting up her own clinic to help poorer children suffering from mental illnesses such as depression, eating disorders, and hypertension, which can result from living in a broken family."
Elin and Tiger have two children, a daughter Sam (3) and 19 month-old Charlie. It is not surprising that the idea of helping children cope with the divorce is at the forefront of her mind. Obviously with the amount of the settlement of her divorce from arguably the richest sportsman in the world, affording help for her kids is not at issue.
It sounds like Elin asked herself the question ‘what if I didn't have the money and were in the same situation?’
"She wants to help children. She is the child of divorced parents and-having seen her own marriage and through no fault of her own, she is very aware of what that can do to kids."
