OUNTAIN OF 'YOUTH': An artist who spent a hefty portion of her teens in the Billboard Hot 100's top 40 celebrates her 40th birthday today.

Deborah Gibson was born Aug. 31, 1970 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Billed as Debbie Gibson, the pop singer-songwriter notched nine top 40 Hot 100 hits on Atlantic Records between 1987 and 1991.

Gibson's debut album, "Out of the Blue," generated four Hot 100 top 10s, including the No. 1 "Foolish Beat" in 1988. Not yet 18 when the song reached the summit, Gibson remains the youngest female artist to write, produce and perform a Hot 100 chart-topper.

Gibson's second album, "Electric Youth," reigned for five weeks atop the Billboard 200 in 1989 and featured her second Hot 100 leader, "Lost in Your Eyes."

According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Gibson's first two albums have been certified triple- and double-Platinum, respectively. Her third set, "Anything Is Possible," earned a Gold certification.

Gibson, who added Broadway credits to her resume beginning in 1992, has most recently made headlines with the announcement that she has teamed with fellow former teen singing star Tiffany to film the upcoming Syfy original movie, "Mega Python vs. Gatoroid" (also starring Mickey Dolenz) and for headlining Cirque Dreams' "Jungle Fantasy" stage production.

"Thank U 4 all the bday wishes! 40 feels FABULOUS!," Gibson Tweetedearlier today. "I'm giggling cuz the number doesn't compute. I feel ETERNALLY ELECTRIC."

On her 40th birthday, Chart Beat looks at Gibson's nine Hot 100 top 40 hits to-date.

Debbie Gibson Joins Cast of 80's Stars for SyFy TV Flick

Debbie Gibson will appear in the U.S. television movie "Mega Python vs Gatoroid," opposite her fellow former pop icons Micky Dolenz and Tiffany, Syfy said. Debbie Gibson was a pop-singer and had a number of hits in the 1980's, as was co-star Tiffany. Dolenz was a member of the 1960s music group The Monkees and co-starred in a TV sitcom named for the band for two seasons.

Syfy's Saturday Original Movie "Mega Python vs Gatoroid" is currently filming in Los Angeles.

In it, there's a crisis in the Florida Everglades as giant pythons are threatening the alligator population. Gibson portrays a fanatical animal rights advocate who frees illegally imported exotic snakes from pet stores, sending them into the Everglades where the pythons become mega-sized. Tiffany plays an over-zealous park ranger worried about the growing ecological damage. To save her beloved alligators, she employs dangerous methods, setting off a war between the species -- and putting her on a collision course with Gibson. Dolenz portrays a celebrity singer hired by Tiffany for her fundraiser to save the Everglades, Syfy said in a synopsis Wednesday.
